realization

When Peter & Richard approached me to do the design for their "30 Years Anniversary Tour" I immediately saw the potential to create a concept that goes beyond the normal tour poster.

I wanted to take a more unconventional approach this time and started looking through design books for ideas and approaches instead of clicking through my mood boards.

Like a few times before, I got stuck on Robert Indiana's "LOVE" sign and immediately fell in love with its timeless, simple beauty. I've also been smitten with Otl Aicher's functional applied graphics for a long time - specifically his play with positive-negative shapes. I wanted to combine the two things.

From the last tour, I knew how well solid LED walls and large dominant shapes with strong contrasts fit with their visuals. So I hit up with Jascha Süss, their visual artist and discussed where the visual journey of the next tour should go…

During the design process, I quickly realized how well the reduced box-shaped custom letters translate to all applications. The decisive factor was always a fixed grid on which all elements are oriented. At the point where I used the glyphs as a cut mask for roughly rasterized photos, it came off perfectly for me and everything else was truly a pleasure…

Special thanks to Franz Frommann, who put me back on track when the simplicity became too complex for me.
